WHAT IS IT?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. PRP injections trigger natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft. Plasma is the liquid portion of whole blood. HOW DOES IT WORK?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of the patients own platelets to accelerate the healing of the hair follicle. PRP injections are prepared by drawing the patients own blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into your scalp with a needle. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces.
WHAT TO EXPECT OVERALL?
The nurse will draw blood from your arm with a needle. Then place the tube of blood into the centrifuge for a few minutes to spin and separate the platelets and blood cells. Then re inject the plasma (liquid gold) back into the scalp with a single syringe to channel the plasma back into the scalp. Wearing a hat and avoiding the direct sunlight is best right after treatment.
